FRANK A. HAYE - Founder, Artistic Director, & Conductor

Frank Haye’s willingness to navigate BIC into unchartered  waters has resulted in new, deeply enriching experiences. His extensive musical background founded him with the ability to turn a vision into a reality.

Haye, a conductor, composer,  producer,  adjudicator, tenor, and educator has served as the Conductor of Symphony St. Paulia, Assistant Conductor of The Boys Choir of Harlem, and Pastor of Sacred Arts, Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Presently, he is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Brooklyn Interdenominational Choir (BIC).  Haye has served as an Adjunct Faculty Member at Brooklyn College, Visiting Professor of Music at New York University and The University of the West Indies, and Director of Choral Studies at Bloomfield College. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music, and received a fellowship to pursue a Master’s degree in musicology and conducting.

Ensembles under Haye’s tutelage have performed throughout North America, Africa, the Caribbean, Asia and Europe. At the amphitheater Arena di Verona, Italy,  Haye conducted an international choir–comprised of 19 choirs from 10 countries—in a massed sing selection. Recent engagements include the world premiere of the Mile-Long Opera and Antigone in Ferguson. Past performances have included Carnegie Hall, The Brooklyn Academy of Music, David Geffen Hall, Madison Square Garden, The Barclays Center and The Cadet Chapel at West Point.  Under Haye’s direction, BIC participated in the Fall 2020 Downtown Brooklyn Rehearsal Residency Initiative.

As a  diverse, intergenerational collective, BIC performs contemporary, anthemic, traditional, inspirational, classical, popular, and world music.  The choir has sung for worship services, interfaith/peace gatherings, gospel shabbats, sporting events, holiday programs, ceremonies, fashion shows, art gallery exhibits, weddings, galas, award  programs, orchestral concerts, plays/theatrical presentations, rock, jazz and blues venues, live movie showings, commemorations, memorials, educational institutions, shelters,  hospitals,  community events, yoga, ecology, and green festivals, disaster relief benefits, philanthropic groups, fraternal associations, artistic organizations, and private events. Community outreach has included infoshares, hurricane relief benefits, community wellness classes in fitness (Zumba), Vocal Performance, Music Theory, Ear Training, Master Classes, and private music lessons.

BIC has collaborated with and sung for The Brooklyn Academy of Music, Carnegie Hall’s New York Chorus Festival, BRIC’s Celebrate Brooklyn!, the New York and Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestras, the Wordless Music Orchestra, The Mile-Long Opera, The Shed, Spiritualized, Theater of War Productions, Sing for Hope, and televised shows for CBS, NBC, TBN and HBO.

In April of 2014, BIC was awarded second place honors at the International Choral Competition in Verona, Italy. At the invitation of the US State Department, in September 2014, BIC journeyed to Cairo, Egypt for the Samaa International Peace Festival. In spring of 2017, BIC toured in five cities in China. At the end of 2018, BIC traveled to Saint-Marc, Haiti to discuss the creation of a new community there to meet the educational, health, and spiritual needs of the people.

In  summer of 2020, BIC offered a virtual concert to uplift the spirits of our seniors and their care providers.  And, as a selected artist for the Fall 2020  Downtown Brooklyn Rehearsal Residency, BIC continued rehearsals, working on its repertoire in preparation for outdoor holiday events,  as well as  for 2021. Blessings continued as BIC was invited to minister for virtual Worship Services.

To the delight of the community and BIC followers everywhere, BIC gave four outdoor 2021 Summer Series Sidewalk Vespers, complete with a live band. In December 2021, BIC offered the second of its virtual Fall Concert Series, as well as a Christmas Concert with a band and brass ensemble.

BIC began 2022 by offering a virtual concert on New Year’s Day.   In NYC’s first-ever Japan Day Parade in May by Central Park, BIC sang the Japanese National Anthem.

With performances featuring gospel, inspirational, pop, and world music, BIC basked in the the joy of giving three live outdoor shows with a band in BCPC’s July and August 2022 Summer Music Festivals.  Audiences filled courtyard seats, crowded the standing-room only sidewalk, and stood in the street to delight in enjoying a show by BIC’s dynamic gloriously-voiced Rosetta Jefferson, who serenaded the crowd with jazz, blues, and a touch of gospel.

The Good Life Garden provided the backdrop for BIC’s September appearance in the Sweet Tea Festival–a day of music, tea, and art.  October’s events included BIC’s ministry in BCPC’s 170th Anniversary Celebration. Upcoming performances include holiday and 2023 concerts.

Haye states, “We believe the power of music transcends our cultural, political, financial, and religious differences to expose that which we truly share: faith hope, and love.”
